Rockin’ the Roosevelt With Hot Fashions, Great Music

It was a perfect pre-summer night Wednesday for the Rock Style event put on by the Los Angeles Times and Macy’s poolside at the Tropicana Bar at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel.

It was the third annual edition of the event, which features a runway built over the iconic swimming pool, painted by David Hockney.

This year, the host with the most was the world-famous KROQ’s (Ted) Stryker, who provides the beats daily on the radio during p.m. drivetime.

Four separate fashion shows featured swimwear, sportswear and summer-wear influenced by LA’s music scene. “Vibrant” was the word of the evening, with colorful fashions, footwear and accessories making their way down the runway.

It was inspirational enough to make LA hipsters throw in the towel on all-black, at least for the season.

All of the fashions are at Macy’s and are part of its recently launched, extremely colorful “Brasil” campaign, which you’ve probably seen by now. As part of the theme, a troupe of beautifully costumed Brazilian dancers book-ended the fashion shows.

The event also featured a brief set from the Pierces.

About 300 guests turned up for the festivities, many of whom imbibed on cocktails by Coco Breve, a malted beverage. Despite the flowing liquor and the fact the party went until midnight, not one guest fell or was pushed into the pool, which can ruin a carefully chosen outfit for a fashionable night out– unless it was one of those hot bathing suits the walked down the runway.
