It’s Social Media Week in Los Angeles, and what better way to get out the word than through social media– and with a high-octane opening party at one of the hottest spots in the area.

Although technically not in the City of Los Angeles, Mayor Eric Garcetti crossed the border into Santa Monica to help kick off the festivities for SMWLA with the second annual naming of the Social 25 at the private club 41 Ocean.

“Social Media Week showcases to the world what we already know here in L.A.,” said Mayor Garcetti. “We stand at the intersection of technology and creativity and are poised to lead the next phase of the digital revolution that is transforming lives and culture across the globe.”

The Social 25 list calls out digital media influencers and organizations which this year encompasses entities including NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Taco Bell and Good Magazine and personages like George Takei, Jada Pinkett Smith, Kevin Spacey, Amy Smart and Scooter Braun.

Others on the roster: Lady Gaga’s business manager Troy Carter, The Trevor Project’s Ryan Lombardini, Jimmy Kimmel, Zooey Deschanel, Snoop Dogg, and Ryan Seacrest. .

The  list is curated by Drew Baldwin, Executive Director of SMWLA and Founder of Tubefilter, and Shira Lazar, host of the digital show, What’s Trending.

“It’s an incredibly exciting time to be part of the LA startup community,” Lazar said. “The ‘Social 25’ curates the leaders in our exploding social startup scene—innovators that are transforming the city of Los Angeles into a true center for entrepreneurship beyond traditional entertainment.”

Smart and Braun were among those on hand for the event, with entertainment provided by KCRW Musical Director Jason Bentley.

Mark Cuban was another familiar face among the crowd of honorees, many of whom are featured on panels or in keynotes during the week-long confab.
