Realscreen Honors Top Reality Television Shows with Host Howie Mandel

Poolside, just a stone’s throw from the Pacific. Turquoise-clad Aqualillies performing their synchronized swim routine. The host: Howie Mandel. There’s not much else that could have added up to be a better setting for the 2014 Realscreen Awards.

Discovery series Deadliest Catch was the winningest program, coming away with five trophies, for best directing, music and editing as well as the Docureality prize and the Award of Excellence—Reality.

Other top honored shows included Logo’s RuPaul’s Drag Race, which won the Competition – Talent and Studio-Based Program category and the Best Host/Presenter category, recognizing RuPaul Andre Charles.

The stunt special Skywire Live with Nik Wallenda took the trophies for Digital and Branded Content – Multi-Platform Project and for Most Original Concept. High wire performer Wallenda also won the prize for Personality of the Year.

Channel 4′s Rebuilding the World Trade Center was awarded Best Cinematography and Non-Fiction – Social Issues and Current Affairs Program.

Other award winners included Discovery Channel’s All the President’s Men Revisited, which won for Non-Fiction – History and Biographical Program; CBS’s The Amazing Race, which triumphed in the Competition – Game category; and NBC’s Million Second Quiz, which won in the new category of Competition – Shiny Floor Game Show.

In addition to the awards competition, Undercover Boss creator Stephen Lambert was inducted into the Realscreen Hall Of Fame and A+E Networks president and CEO Nancy Dubuc received the inaugural Television Trailblazer award.
