Critics’ Choice Shower ‘The Shape of Water,’ ‘The Post,’ Netflix and HBO With Nominations

The Shape of WaterGuillermo del Toro’s “The Shape of Water” is shaping up to be the one to beat this awards season, receiving 14 Critics’ Choice nominations, while HBO and Netflix lead on the television side of the scoreboard.

The contenders in film and television for these 23rd annual kudos were announced on Wednesday morning, December 6, and the winners will be presented on January 11 at a live telecast on the CW Network.

The Critics’ Choice Awards have an excellent track record when it comes to predicting the Oscars. Seven of the last 10 Critics’ Choice winners for Best Picture repeated at the Academy Awards. And just last year eight out of 10 Critics’ Choice nominees for Best Picture ended up with Oscar noms in the top category. The previous year eight out of 11 Critics’ Choice nominees ended up with Oscar bids.
