Diner en Blanc LA

It was the pop up dinner and all pop-up dinners—the second Diner en Blanc, also known as the White Dinner, hit Los Angeles with 2,400 revelers dining downtown under the stars on a beautiful summer night.

Two years ago, the event made its debut with about half that number of participants taking over Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills for a très chic picnic.

The hallmark of the event—aside from its all-white elegance– is that the location is kept secret until the last minute, well, about an hour beforehand to give people time to wade through LA traffic to get to an “unauthorized” location.

That adds to the excitement and mystique of the evening, a concept which began in Paris more than 25 years ago. The essence of the event remains, to provide a platform for friendship and fashion, elegance and even gallantry.

The concept has gone international, and more than 100,000 people have participated since the launch.

Since the August 27 dinner is now over, we can break the code of silence and revealed that the event took place at Pershing Square.

Both the dress code and the table decor are all white, and guests must bring their own tables, chairs and white table cloths. No beer or hard liquor is permitted – it’s wine or champagne only. Guests are required to leave with all of their belongings, leftovers and litter in order to leave the site as clean as possible.

Let’s toast to that, and to the next edition of this fabulous and unique event. May we suggest a beach-side location?

Since it’s over, we can break the code of silence and revealed that the event took place at Pershing Square. “For this new edition, we have once again searched the city high and low to find a venue that will wow and render this night unique and magical as well as accommodate the greater number of guests,” said Sandy Safi, cofounder of Le Diner en Blanc International, in choosing the downtown Los Angeles location.
