Festive holiday atmosphere, as in Cinco de Mayo? Check. Sunshiny day going into happy hour? Check. Poolside LA hotspot with the killer view? Yes, all the ingredients were in place for a festive soirée that introduced a new drink/mixer called Trop50, from the folks behind Tropicana orange juice.

The crowd, made up mostly of women in sundresses, stilettos and sunglasses soaked it all up at the Mondrian Hotel’s Sky Bar, even as guests lounged poolside in their bathing suits.

The selling point is that Trop50 has half the calories and sugar of other juices, and apparently loses none of the flavor. Giuiana Rancic is the spokesperson for the brand. And she was there mixing it up with drinks like the tropical chiller– made with pineapple mango juice and iced green tea– and the lemon berry mojito using the brand’s low-cal raspberry lemonade and garnished with fresh raspberries and mint leaves.

The drinks being served, which also included an apple snap-tini and a super fruit cosmo, were of the non-alcoholic variety, but could definitely be spiced up with a shot of vodka or rum. And even though those spirits add extra calories, you’ll be saving some with the mixers. They’re also great for making popsicles, and here’s a tip: they can meet made especially creamy with nonfat yogurt and chopped up fresh fruit.
