It was a beautiful sight on a late summer’s night: a Hollywood parking lot, normally used to pack up home delivered meals to thousands of people who have life-threatening illnesses was transformed into a sophisticated, alfresco atmosphere for the 2011 Angel Awards, put on by the nonprofit organization Project Angel Food.
If you’re not familiar with this worthy cause, it provides home cooked meals and delivers them to 1,300 clients with HIV/AIDS, cancer and other diseases. The gala, of which this was the 16th annual, raises money, which pays for about 70,000 meals valued at five dollars each.
About 400 guests were on hand to celebrate the awards given to the Food Network’s Lisa Lillien and Glee executive producer Dante Di Loreto. As a special treat, the finalists from Oxygen’s The Glee Project performed some rousing numbers for the energetic crowd.
Dinner featured a delicious arugula salad, platters of humus and olives, grilled Moroccan chicken skewers, orzo and bountiful vegetables, all prepared in the on site kitchen, (and served with aplomb) so benefactors could get an actual taste of sort of healthful meals their funds support.
Attendees included the lovely Jessica Lange, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Louise Lombard (CSI), Jackson Hurst (Drop Dead Diva), Anthony Edwards (E.R.), Sean Kanan (The Young and Restless), Paris Barclay (Director and Sponsors), Jai Rodriguez (Queen Eye for the Straight Guy), Michelle Clunie (Queer As Folk), Alex Meneses (Everybody Loves Raymond) and comedian Carlease Burke.
