In the midst of its box office-busting opening weekend, key members of the cast of the Downton Abbey movie took the stage after an American Cinematheque screening at Santa Monica’s historic Aero Theater.

The film picks up about 18 months after the television series ended in 2016. It’s 1927 and the residents of Downton have just learned that England’s King George V and Queen Mary are coming to visit.

The household staff gets turned upside down when it is learned that the royal family will be bringing their own servants and kitchen staff to the storied home as the Crawley family frets about a myriad of other details to ensure everything goes smoothly.

Hugh Bonneville, Elizabeth McGovern, Allen Leech and Lesley Nicol, along with costume designer Anna Robbins spoke with moderator Scott Mantz for nearly an hour after the closing credits before a packed house who clearly adored the Focus Features movie– and especially the snappy lines uttered by Dame Maggie Smith.
