6th Annual Location Managers Guild Awards Laud ‘Chernobyl’ and ‘Roma’

Their work is integral to the success of motion picture and television production and members of the Location Managers Guild International were primed to recognize the best in their business at the organization’s sixth annual awards.

The location, which is always of the utmost importance to this group –The Eli & Edythe Broad Stage in Santa Monica, with an adjacent afterparty under the stars. About 500 people attended the event Saturday night.

As the ceremonies hosted by AJ Gibson got underway, Guild president Mike Fantasia noted that the craft is finally being given the respect it deserves as location managers turn storyboards into story.

Top honors in television went to HBO’s “Chernobyl” and Amazon Prime Video’s “Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan.”

The trophies in film were awarded to “Roma,” Alfonso Cuaron’s love letter to his childhood in a Mexico City neighborhood– which won three Oscars this year – and to Paramount’s Tom Cruise starrer “Mission impossible: Fallout.”

Oscar-nominated director Peter Weir (Witness, Dead Poets Society, The Truman Show, Master and Commander) received the Eva Monley Award, given to industry members who support the work of location professionals. Holland Taylor accepted the award on Weir’s behalf, and Weir addressed the assemblage via video.

Location manager Michael J. Meehan (Dead Poets Society, The Perfect Storm, Pirates of the Caribbean, Master and Commander) received the lifetime achievement award.

LMGI’s humanitarian award went to Hidden Empire Film Group for its worldwide philanthropy and work raising awareness of human rights and social issues.

Presenters included Regina King, Joe Mantegna and Michael Ealy.
