The Best Clay Masque for the Money

What better time than on a weekend during a pandemic to experiment with various facial masks and see which one works best. After all, most of us do not have to put on makeup after our DIY home facials.

With my combination skin, clay masks have always had an immediate effect of cleaning and tightening. However many of them come in a jar which requires scooping out with a spatula. Another downside: if you don’t use them in fairly short order, they completely dry up and have to be tossed.

I’ve yet to see any clay sheet masks– but tell me if I’m wrong – as I doubt it’s a concept that would work. And that’s fine with me as I am not a sheet mask person– it dampens my hair is the reason – and vastly prefer a mask from a tube.

My longtime old school favorite is Lancome’s Empreinte purifying mineral masque with white clay, which runs $36 for a 3.38 oz tube.

But for a fraction of the price and an almost equal efficacy I have a new hero clay mask that I am using weekly and loving. Bliss Pore Patrol Deep Detox Four-Clay Souffle Mask.

I haven’t tracked Bliss closely lately, but it definitely used to be an upscale, premium brand sold at spas, etc. Now it’s moved to mass-market, meaning you can find Bliss at Walgreens, CVS and Target, and the price point has moved way down as well. This is all good in my estimation!

The product comes in a pump bottle, which is even better than a tube, that you press and dispense the amount you’d like on to your fingertips. Then you close up the opening with a tab that is provided, preventing the product from drying up.

With a 2 oz. bottle that will last quite a while and set you back a whopping $15.99, it’s a buy.
