A vacation in California’s storied wine country is always a cause for celebration. There is so much to drink in and we have found no more perfect place to take it all in than at the Inn, the Napa River Inn at the Historic Napa Mill.

The moment we walked in to the hotel lobby and were greeted warmly, we knew it was going to be a delightful visit.

Yes, the pandemic was raging but the timing was still perfect as the summer weather was just starting to heat up in Napa Valley and we were sorely in need of a wine country getaway from Los Angeles.

Despite the spa at the hotel being closed – an issue promptly solved by the concierge to guided us to one nearby – our two-night stay at the Napa River Inn was simply fantastic.

A friendly, helpful staff member helped us into our well-appointed, spacious room that featured a balcony with a view of the river. The hotel’s waterfront location is ideal for walking to pretty much everything in the downtown sector of the city, including local wineries and the popular Oxbow Public Market.

Going for a run is as simple as heading over to the new downtown Riverwalk for a scenic jog along the water.

There are 66 beautifully appointed rooms within three buildings: the contemporary River Plaza, where we stayed, the nautically-themed Embarcadero and the historic main Hatt building, which was built in 1884.

All rooms feature a range of luxurious amenities like pillow-top mattresses, balconies and fireplaces and essentials that we personally require—refrigerators (especially handy for chilling the wine you will acquire), Keurig coffee makers and comfy bathrobes and slippers.

And every room, every morning, receives a selection of freshly-baked pastries from nearby Sweetie Pies Bakery & Café, along with a selection of your choice of beverages. Wi-Fi and parking are included in all room rates, and unlike many hotels, there are no hidden resort fees.

Although there is no on-site restaurant, world-class choices are just steps away from the hotel or within easy walking distance, including Angele. Celadon, Kenzo and Morimoto. For more casual sustenance, including delicious cold coffee drinks, Sweetie Pies is right next to the hotel’s main entrance.

Although the pandemic has put a hold on conferences, the hotel features 2,440 square feet of meeting and banquet space and can provide an array of business services to meet corporate needs.

We can’t wait to return to this gem of a property and hopefully to then experience some of the pampering treatments at its full-service day spa.

In the meantime, we will be content with wonderful memories of a spectacular trip filled with world-class food, wine and the intrinsic beauty of Napa, from our new favorite place in the Valley.
