Victory is at hand for the cast of Everything Everywhere All at Once at SAG

Sunday night’s SAG Awards cemented “Everything Everywhere All at Once’s” position as the one to beat for best picture at the upcoming Oscars.

The A24 indie film, which first premiered at the Sundance Film Festival last year, had picked up five SAG noms and took home four trophies in its victory march including the coveted Best Ensemble, the Screen Actors Guild equivalent of a best picture award.

Michelle Yeoh took the prize as best actress over the presumptive Cate Blanchett. Jamie Lee Curtis was somewhat of a surprise as best supporting actress and Ke Huy Quan was the shoo-in as best supporting actor gaining the status as the first Asian man to win in that category.

Just the night before, “EEAAO” had taken the top trophy at the PGA Awards and its directors, the Daniels were awarded the best director trophy at the DGAs last weekend.

Picking up all of these guild awards makes the movie practically unstoppable.

“The Banshees of Inisherin,” which also entered the night with five nominations, did not take home any trophies.

The awards streamed live for the first time on Netflix’s YouTube channel without commercials. In previous years it had aired on TBS and TNT. Many of the presenters who took the stage had to call for people to sit down and be quiet as audiences at these awards shows are used to getting up during commercial breaks to schmooze, hit the bathroom or the bar.
