‘Everything Everywhere’ Sweeps Independent Spirit Awards

Continuing its victory march through awards season and trampling everything else in its way, “Everything Everywhere All at Once” picked up seven trophies out of its eight nominations at the Independent Spirit Awards on Saturday.

The A24 film scored best feature, best director, best lead performance for Michelle Yeoh, best supporting performance for Ke Huy Quan, best breakthrough performance for Stephanie Hsu and best editing.

Todd Field’s “Tár” came into the ceremony with seven nominations and won for best cinematography and Charlotte Wells’ “Aftersun,” which had five noms, took home the trophy for best first feature.

All three are in contention for best picture at the Oscars on March 12 with “Everything Everywhere” leading the pack with 11 nominations.

Other awards season darlings also took home prizes, with “The Bear” scoring the award for best new scripted series and Quinta Brunson winning best lead performance in a new scripted series for her role in “Abbott Elementary.”
