The make-up and hair styling teams behind some of this year’s most buzzed-about Oscar contenders took center stage Saturday night, as the film categories at the 13th annual ceremony hosted by the Make-Up Artists & Hair Stylists Guild delivered a sweep worthy of awards-season headlines.

Held at the Westin Bonaventure in Los Angeles and hosted by Rachael Harris, the night celebrated the craftspeople responsible for transforming actors into icons, monsters, and memorable characters across film, television, and live productions.

Three Best Picture nominees emerged as the evening’s biggest film winners. Sinners and One Battle After Another — both from Warner Bros. — each claimed two top prizes, while Frankenstein from Netflix captured Best Special Make-Up Prosthetics.

Sinners, which earned a staggering 16 Oscar nominations, took both Best Period and/or Character Makeup and Hair Styling. One Battle After Another, boasting 13 Oscar nominations of its own, won for Contemporary Makeup and Hair Styling. Frankenstein’s prosthetics triumph underscored the continued appetite for transformative, effects-driven artistry.

Industry watchers know these honors often serve as a crystal ball for the Academy’s makeup and hairstyling race. Last year, guild voters recognized The Substance from Mubi, which went on to win the Oscar.

On the television side, Saturday Night Live led the pack with three wins, including recognition for its 50th Anniversary Special, giving NBC a major night.

Streaming platforms also scored multiple victories. The Studio and Palm Royale each picked up two awards for individual makeup and hairstyling achievements, adding to a strong showing for Apple TV+. Meanwhile, Skeleton Crew emerged as a double winner in the Children and Teen Programming categories for Disney+.

The evening also spotlighted career achievement and artistic legacy. IATSE Local 706 presented its Distinguished Artisan Award to Amy Madigan, introduced by her Weapons director Zach Cregger and the film’s hair and makeup team.

Emmy-winning Nickelodeon artist Michael Johnston received the Vanguard Award, honoring innovation and influence in the field.

Makeup legend Greg Nelson — whose credits include Raging Bull and Thriller — was presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award for Make-Up by Robert Patrick and David Hussey.

Hairstyling icon Judy Alexander Cory, whose work spans Forrest Gump and The Matrix, received the Lifetime Achievement Award for Hair Stylists from Kathy Bates.

The guild’s honors recognize excellence across 20 categories spanning film, television, music videos, and live stage productions — from Broadway and international theater to theme parks — for work completed during calendar year 2025.
