It was a packed house at the David Yurman store on Rodeo Drive, and all for a good cause. The esteemed jeweler and his wife Sybil greeted supporters of the John Wayne Cancer Institute Auxiliary, which a portion of the evening’s proceeds benefited. Guests were served cocktails and hors d’oeuvres and got a close-up look at Yurman’s latest jewelry, timepiece, eyewear, fragrance, and couture collections.
The event was hosted by Alana Stewart, who will be receiving the “True Grit” award at the Auxiliary’s Odyssey Ball on April 9 at the Beverly Hilton. Ruth Weil will be presented with “The Duke” Award that evening.
Other guests at the soiree included Patrick Wayne, Michael Wayne, Cheryl Tiegs, Jacqueline Bisset, Ann Turkel and Barbara Davis, whose Carousel Ball benefits childhood diabetes.
Since the legendary John Wayne died of cancer in 1981, the institute bearing his name at Saint John’s Health Center in Santa Monica has achieved many milestones in the fight against cancer. It has quickly turned scientific breakthroughs into innovative approaches to treatment and early detection of cancer, providing immediate hope to cancer patients around the world who have availed themselves of its services.
