The Secret to Great Writing Is…Tweeting About Writing for the WGA Awards

Want to see how well you can write a tweet, in the company of the the entertainment industry’s top scribes?

In conjunction with its upcoming awards show this Saturday, the Writers Guild of America, West is inviting people to participate in the WGAW’s first-ever “Mighty Pen” competition, running through this Friday, January 31, via Twitter.

To enter, finish the sentence, “The secret to great writing is…” and include the hashtag #mightypen in your post on Twitter. That doesn’t leave many characters, but give it a shot.

One winner will be named during the WGAW’s West Coast awards program, which will be streamed live on latimes.com/wga this Saturday, February 1, from the JW Marriott Hotel at L.A. LIVE in downtown L.A. Pre-show coverage begins at 5:00 p.m., followed at 5:30 p.m. by “Meet the Writers,” featuring interviews with several of this year’s WGA nominees. The awards presentation starts at 6:00 p.m.

But there’s more chance for writing glory. Five finalists will be announced during the show. Online viewers will be able vote on the five #mightypen Tweets while the program is in progress. Voting will take place in an online poll during the live stream at latimes.com/wga. The entrant who receives the most votes will be announced during the show, earning the WGAW’s first-ever Mighty Pen commendation.

The WGA Awards are the last of the major awards shows before Hollywood takes an Olympics hiatus during February before the Oscars March 2.
