Getting Sloshed by the Sea at the New SHOREBar

Feel like there aren’t a lot of places to go for drinks in Santa Monica that aren’t A) a restaurant B) a hotel or C) a total dive?

You’re right. But now there’s a new venue in the beachfront nightlife universe. It’s called SHOREBar, and yes, that’s how they’re spelling it. Doors are officially open this Memorial Day weekend, just in time for the summer season.

It’s on the site of old Hideout on West Channel Road just a few doors up from the Westside location of Hungry Cat and just down the street from longtime Santa Monica Canyon favorites Giorgio di Baldi and the Golden Bull.

Owners John Terzian, Brian Toll and Adam Koral say they want you to consider their new venue a home away from home. That’s certainly an tempting proposition based upon our preview visit.

Mixologist Vincenzo Marianella brings his sophisticated cocktail menu to the bar, including hand-crafted concoctions like Standing on the Shore, Campanula Shore, Good Ole Boy, OK Koral and Under the Boardwalk.

The inviting interior evokes Nantucket chic and was inspired by nearby establishments like Shutters on the Beach and the Jonathan Club. The ivory and dark grey palette with brass accents is seaside-y but contemporary. The exterior has been painted white, but you may still recognize the historic ship facade that has adorned the building for decades.

The bar features a back patio and there are plans for a members-only club upstairs with personal lockers to store everything from bottles to beach gear.

It’s open Tuesday-Sunday and there’s valet outside for $6.
