‘The Pitt’ and ‘Hacks’ Lead HBO to Record Emmy Nominations, Netflix and Apple Also Score Big

Emmy voters have spoken, after an event-filled FYC season that ran from March until June.

Leading all programs with an impressive 25 nominations is HBO Max’s acclaimed medical drama The Pitt, cementing itself as this year’s awards juggernaut. Close behind is the fifth and final season of Hacks, which scored 24 nominations, making it one of the most celebrated comedy seasons in Emmy history. Apple TV+’s breakout newcomer Widow’s Bay follows with 19 nominations, while Pluribus earned 18, and Netflix’s Beef continued its awards momentum with 16 nominations.

For HBO Max, its 122 nominations represent another dominant year across drama and comedy, while Netflix’s 111 nods again proved its depth with an impressive slate spanning limited series, drama and comedy. Apple TV+ continued its remarkable rise as a prestige television powerhouse, buoyed by strong performances from Widow’s Bay, Shrinking, and other acclaimed series to achieve third place in the nom list with 87..

But perhaps the biggest story belongs to Hacks, as it attempts to close one of television’s most acclaimed runs in recent memory. Star Jean Smart is once again nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series after an astonishing streak of Emmy success. Smart has won the award four consecutive years for portraying legendary comedian Deborah Vance, and a fifth victory would further cement one of the most dominant performances ever recognized in the comedy category.

The series itself has evolved from a sharp generational comedy into one of television’s richest character studies, with Smart and co-star Hannah Einbinder delivering consistently acclaimed performances that have become Emmy fixtures.

Drama is equally competitive this year.

The Pitt transformed what could have been a familiar medical drama into one of television’s most riveting hours, earning nominations across nearly every major category, including Outstanding Drama Series, acting, directing and writing. The show’s ensemble proved particularly formidable, with nominations recognizing its deep supporting cast.

Among the year’s breakout newcomers, Widow’s Bay made an enormous splash with 19 nominations in its debut season, while Pluribus quickly established itself as one of television’s most ambitious new dramas.

Netflix continued its strong awards presence with nominations for Beef, The Beast in Me, Black Rabbit, and Monster: The Ed Gein Story, demonstrating the streamer’s continued ability to deliver prestige programming across multiple genres.

This year’s nominations also produced several noteworthy milestones. Natural history icon David Attenborough, now 100 years old, became the oldest Emmy nominee ever.

As always, the nominations brought their share of surprises and disappointments. Several expected contenders fell short, while a number of newcomers broke into the race for the first time, creating one of the most competitive Emmy fields in recent memory.

The winners will be announced September 14 at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, hosted by Mariska Hargitay on NBC, where television’s biggest stars will gather to celebrate another extraordinary year on the small screen.

Whether The Pitt dominates, Hacks caps its legendary run with one final triumph, or an underdog emerges victorious, the 78th Primetime Emmy Awards promise to be one of the most compelling ceremonies in years.
